How to play
Spotle Movies is a free daily Wordle style movie guessing game with a new mystery film every day. You've got 10 guesses to figure it out. Each guess reveals clues across eight attributes.
New films start at midnight EST.
How it works
- 1Type a movie title and pick it from the dropdown.
- 2 Eight attribute tiles flip to show how close your guess was. Director, cast, year, box office, score, rated, genres, and studio.
- 3Use what you learn to zero in. Ten guesses total.
- 4 Get it right and you win. Use up all 10 guesses and you lose. Share your result and come back tomorrow!

Direction arrows
On Year, Box Office, and Score, a yellow tile comes with an arrow pointing you in the right direction.
The 8 attributes
Director
The film's primary director. Some movies have multiple directors - the most prominent is listed.
Green = same director. Yellow = shared co-director on another film.
Studio
Each card shows one headline studio (close sub-brands fold in - Walt Disney Pictures shows as Disney, Fox Searchlight as 20th Century Fox).
Green = same studio. Yellow = sister labels under the same parent company (e.g. Pixar, Marvel, or Touchstone vs Walt Disney).
Year
The theatrical release year.
Green = exact match. Yellow = within 5 years. Arrows show whether the target is earlier or later.
Box Office
Worldwide theatrical gross revenue.
Green = exact match. Yellow = within $100M. Arrows show direction.
Score
TMDB user rating, shown out of 100.
Green = exact match. Yellow = within 5 points. Arrows show direction.
Rated
Age/content rating. The rating system adapts to your region - change it in Settings.
Green = same rating.
Cast
The lead actor and up to four supporting cast members from the film.
Green = same actor in the same role type (lead or supporting). Yellow = same actor, different role.
Genres
Each film has 1-5 genres. Possible genres: Action, Adventure, Animation, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama, Family, Fantasy, History, Horror, Music, Mystery, Romance, Science Fiction, Thriller, War, Western.
Matching genres are shown in green.
What is Spotle Movies?
Spotle Movies is a free daily movie guessing game from Flatwhite Studios. A new mystery film is selected every day, and you have 10 guesses to figure it out. Eight clue tiles tell you about the director, studio, year, box office, score, age rating, cast, and genres.
When does the daily film reset?
Every day at midnight EST.
What movies can show up?
The library is well-known films across many genres and decades. Niche titles may be missing.
Why isn't a movie I'm searching for showing up?
The library covers more than 3,000 films but isn't exhaustive. If we're missing a movie you'd expect, please let us know in the feedback form on the menu.
Can I play yesterday's puzzle?
Yes. Open the menu and head to Rewatch to play any film from the past 50 days.
How do hints work?
Two hints become available as the game goes on. The first unlocks after your fifth guess, the second after your eighth. You decide whether to use them or hold out.
What counts as a "close" match?
Year: within 5 years. Box office: within $100 million worldwide gross. Score: within 5 points on the 0-100 scale shown on the tile.
How does the yellow color work for cast?
Yellow on a cast avatar means that actor appears in the mystery film, but in a different role type - for example, they're a lead in your guess but a supporting player in the answer, or vice versa. Green means same actor, same role type.
